weekend fun

This weekend one of Josh's mission companions came down to visit, so Friday we went to Sand Hollow to go boating.  I haven't been since last summer, plus I had a baby so I am way out of shape and it was so tiring!  But it was still way fun to get out and just be on the lake.

Also, it was Pioneer Day last Thursday so we got a few little fireworks to light.  It's amazing how many fireworks you DON'T get for your money.  Oh, well.

American Idiots

This question is for all you So You Think You Can Dance fans:  WHAT!?!  I was completely shocked and extremely disappointed with the outcome this week... well 50%.  We all know that Comfort stayed in way longer than she should have, but Will???  Seriously, I thought he should win the whole competition.  He is by far the most versatile dancer of everyone.  I cannot remember a time that he had a bad week.  And his solo this week... FREAKIN' AWESOME!  So why did he leave us this week?  Here's my theory:  everyone just figures that he will get votes since he is like, the best, and so they vote for people that are more the underdog.  The same thing happened on American Idol when Michael Johns left us.  He was one of the best competitors and ended up getting booted off way before his time.  So America, start voting for the BEST competitor, not just the one you think needs the votes.

CAKE!

I did a cute birthday cake for someone last week, and rather than posting everything about it on both blogs, I just did it on my cake site.  I know I don't post very often on that one though, so just thought I'd let you know!

there's a party in my tummy!

Yup, I'm pretty sure that's what Kai was thinking.  Lately he's been so interested in food so last night we gave him rice cereal for the first time.  Rather than mixing it with milk or water we added apple juice to make it half way decent tasting.   Kai liked it so much, it was hilarious!  When we'd start putting the spoon to his mouth he would grab it and shove it in his face.  He's an animal!  Needless to say, we'll make this a daily routine from now on.

our weekend

Josh and I went up to Provo last weekend to spend the 4th with my mom's family.  We had such a good time!  Here are some of the highlights:

Kai had his first taste of chocolate ice cream.  As you can see, he LOVED it!!

On Friday morning we went to the parade in Provo with my mom's whole family.  Kai loved watching everything, but was not happy about the sirens, gun shots, and loud noises.

That afternoon we took a bunch of my uncles tubes and a raft and we floated the Provo river.  It was FREEZING cold!!  I'm not very good at guessing temperatures of water, but they were saying it was about 60-65 degrees....  so cold!

We took tons of blankets and laid right outside of the Stadium of Fire to watch fireworks.  It was such an amazing show!  They had fireworks I've never even seen before, and they lasted forever.  It was a great way to end the 4th!

On Sunday night we went to a birthday party for Josh's grandma Carma.  Kai is the first great-great grandchild for his grandma Higginson!  We couldn't pass up getting this photo with 5 generations.

ALSO... Taylor put his mission papers in on June 18th, so we were expecting to get them back on the Wednesday before we went up north.  Unfortunately, they didn't arrive, so we figured they would get here the next week.  My family went home Saturday morning and checked the mail just incase his call came while we were gone, but nothing!  Around 6 p.m. Taylor checked the mail box again and there they were!  So Saturday night he opened them and he has been called to serve in the Bele Horizonte, Brazil Mission.  He will report straight to the Brazil MTC on November 19th.  Congrats T-Bone!  We love you!

Now, of course Taylor couldn't just do things like a normal person.  Let me explain.  When he opened his call on Saturday night he steamed it open very carefully, then resealed it afterward.  On Sunday he went to his college ward and took his mission call to church.  He got up to bare his testimony and since the "spirit was so strong" he ripped open his call at the pulpit and read where he was going to everyone.  He totally made them all think that he was opening it with them for the first time.  He's such a nerd.
